Here is the cake I made for my Mom's 60th birthday. The design was inspired by artist Marjolein Bastin including adorable plump birds hiding amongst brightly colored flower clusters that are tucked between layers of quilted white fondant-covered cake. The teal ribbons adorning the bottoms of each layer match the gumpaste/royal icing birdcage topper. Beneath the fondant lies two completely different cakes - the top one is a white cake covered in almond buttercream with triple raspberry filling - red, black and raspberry cream. The larger cake was made especially for my Mom - chocolate cake filled with orange-chocolate chip fudge, covered with orange-chocolate mousse buttercream. Happy Birthday Mom!

This is a Fall inspired cake completely covered and decorated in fondant. I made a spice cake and paired it with an apple filling. It was iced in buttercream and covered in a layer of white fondant. For the border I tried to mimic the beauty of the fall foliage by mottling reds, yellows and greens for the leaves. I topped the cake off with a plump pumpkin peaking out of a patch of vines.

This is my final project in an Advanced Gumpaste Flower course I have been taking for the past month. This floral arrangement is made with all edible sugar flowers believe it or not. The hydrangea was inspired by my mom and the rest was taught in class.

Well, I think this has to be my favorite cake of all. I made these cakes for my boss and I just love how they came out. I also found out my favorite cake combination - white cake flavored with a bit of almond, filled with lemon curd (next time I will also place fresh raspberries in the filling) and topped with vanilla buttercream - it is sooooooo good! The other is a chocolate cake filled with chocolate mousse and topped with chocolate buttercream. I love chocolate and all, but the other one is so vibrant and refreshing.

I finally purchased a gum paste flower kit so I could make the queen of all flowers - the orchid. I was so excited to try it out for the first time. I didn't have chalk to color it, so I used gel coloring and vanilla as a paint, although it makes the surface of the gum paste have a pearlescent effect - I don't mind though, I think its pretty!
